What Going to Fashion Week is Really Like

With NYFW kicking off this week and my preparations for Paris in full swing I thought it would be nice to finally give answers to your long-awaited questions regarding Fashion Weeks! I know you have loads, but hopefully, I'll cover everything you need to know.

Aside from the glitz and glamour, there are things that people don't tell you about going to fashion weeks. Before you jump to conclusions, I'll tell you this; I absolutely LOVE that time of the year and I feel extremely humbled that brands from all over the globe want me to be at their shows. It will always and forever be an honor.

But how do I access those invite-only events? Obviously, it didn't happen overnight. It took me a lot of precious time, hard work, a badass agent (thanks E!) and tons of rejections to be able to build connections and eventually attend the shows. There are some brands that invite me on their own, but I still need to send an invitation request to the rest. Some will accept my request, some will reject it. But it's OK - you can't be everyone's cup of tea and you cannot always be relevant. The fastest you realize that, the happier you'll be!

Also, there’s no guarantee you’ll be invited to the same shows every season unless you keep a pretty close relationship with the brand and/or with the agency representing it. Otherwise, they can leave you hanging until the very last minute and even reject you in the end. But it's all part of the game and I try not to take it personally anymore.

I'll be completely honest with you; there were times in the past I'd felt rejected, incapable and unworthy of being there. Sometimes I'd say I'd give up and never try again. With the competition rising every year, you constantly feel the need to prove yourself to fellow bloggers / agents / brands and trust me it's painful. Why? Cause there's always someone more famous, more beautiful and better dressed than you in the room. And you need to be very strong and confident in order not to give a damn. But always remember that if there's a will, there's a way and if you want something bad enough, you'll find a freakin' way to make it happen. Just like I did!

Also, can we talk about that crazy schedule? You constantly hear that Fashion week is extremely hectic and I'm sure you wonder why. Because it is not just about the shows; there are also major events, presentations and cocktail parties going on at the same time [I suggest you read last year's diaries for a better understanding]. If you are lucky enough to be invited to even a bunch of these, your day will definitely be full from AM to PM. I also try to squeeze in some appointments with potential clients or casual coffee dates with other digital friends who I get to see only that time of the year. Did I mention that I also need to shoot in between, update my social media, change at least 3-4 outfits, get some time to eat, facetime my boyfriend and look impeccable while doing it all?

Writing this post reminded me that I've come a long way since my first FW experience back in 2012. Damn, I’m pretty proud of myself for what I have achieved in the past years - from going to my first fashion week in Paris and witnessing it all from the outside, to actually attending a whole lot of beautiful shows & events every season. I think my biggest pinch-me moment was when after a bunch of seasons of using friends' tickets to get into shows (oops), I was sitting front row at some of the biggest names next to all these people I had been admiring for so long! It still seems crazy!! [imagine what I'll do when I finally get that highly-coveted CHANEL ticket haha]

Of course, none of this would have happened if it wasn’t for you, your love and endless support. I mean I can never be thankful enough for you guys! No joke.

And just to give you an update, this season I will skip London & Milan due to some personal obligations and head straight to my favorite city in the world; Paree! But get ready cause I have some major things planned for that week and I can't wait to share it all with you. It will be our best season yet, so wish me good luck already!

Love love love you all! x
